Bugesera district: Young man named Elie Manirakiza , murdered his father by burning him, accusing him to refuse buy him a motorcycle.

Elie Manirakiza , a young man who killed his father due to his father refused to buy him a bike.

The murder of that victim father took place in Bugesera district,Mayange sector , in Kibirizi cell,

The residents say that, the victim old man had been in a saving group (Ikimina), and after people heard the news he is murdered by his own son.

One of them said:“We met the old man coming back from the evening savings group that we usually attend. It was around 7:00 p.m. when he was coming back and we were on our way there. It was raining, and the old man had also been drinking alcohol. When he got home, he went straight to bed. Then his son came in after him, locked the door, and killed him.”

Neighbors of the deceased who spoke to BTN TV we get source from, went on to say that his son, Elia Manirakiza, is the one who killed his father using petrol, as he himself confessed.

They said:“We found out that he was the one who set him on fire. We went to the backyard, broke the door and the window so that we could throw in soil, mud, sand, and water to try to put out the fire. His son was arrested and confessed, saying, ‘I killed my father intentionally. Let me call people to come and take me because I am the one who killed him.’”

Another resident went on to say that they found the deceased already dead, burned in the room where he used to sleep.

He said:“They said he made him sit on a chair, tied him up, covered him with a mattress, a mosquito net, and other things that were in the room, then set him on fire until he died.”

Reports also indicate that Manirakiza, who killed his father, had spent the whole day drinking alcohol at a nearby trading center before going home to commit the crime.

These residents called for young people today to be taught the value of work, saying that many of them want to eat without working.

They said:“They don’t want to work; they just want to eat what they haven’t labored for — it’s a big problem. If you have a small piece of land and your child asks you for an inheritance, once you give it to him, he immediately puts it up for sale.”

It is also reported that Manirakiza, who killed his father, had ongoing conflicts with him because his father had promised to give him an old motorcycle, but the son refused, insisting he wanted a brand new Huojue motorcycle instead.

It is further said that Manirakiza was known as a thief, as he once stole one million Rwandan francs from his father and was caught with only five hundred thousand left.

In this Bugesera District, in less than a month, more than ten cases have been reported of children killing their parents and parents killing their children. Residents are urging that something be done to educate people about peaceful coexistence.
