MUHANGA: Gahogo area is very festive, how is preparations in Muhanga town as only a few hours remain before Christians celebrate Christmas (Noel).
At around 10:00 p.m. (22:00), a journalist from Failive.com toured different parts of Muhanga town.
General situation in Muhanga town
From one area to another, movement in Muhanga town appeared moderate. It seemed that people were very busy, but overall the streets were not as crowded as they used to be during previous festive seasons.
We spoke to some of the people we met, and they told us that this was not how they had expected it to be.
So, how are residents of Muhanga town preparing?
We continued moving around different areas of Muhanga town, including entertainment spots and churches, to see how things were going.
Gahogo
Gahogo is one of the most well-known areas in Muhanga. When the Failive.com journalist arrived there, it was clear that preparations to welcome Christmas celebrations were well underway.
We visited one bar in that area and found entertainment activities taking place, including a live music performance where musicians were playing for customers.
We also visited ADEPER Church, commonly known as ADEPER Gahogo, where we found many Christians praying, clearly preparing well for Christmas.
Other churches we observed also confirmed that many believers were attending services.
Plateau
This is another well-known area in Muhanga town. Upon arrival, we found entertainment activities and loud music, especially at a bar known as Feza.
Hotels
We were not able to visit all the hotels in Muhanga town, but we went to Saint André Hotel in Kabgayi, where we saw a lot of vehicle traffic, indicating that the hotel had welcomed many guests who came to celebrate Christmas.
We also visited Lucerna Hotel Kabgayi, which was beautifully decorated in a special way for the festive season.

New buildings in Muhanga town, including Muhanga Plaza located near the building commonly known as “Kwa Jacques,” as well as Coopcom House, were also decorated and added to the festive atmosphere for people moving around the town.

Market prices
The Failive.com journalist also visited various markets in Muhanga town, including Muhanga Modern Market. There, we found many people buying items such as clothes, children’s toys, gift-wrapping paper, bracelets, and other items related to Christmas preparations.
We also visited food markets and the area commonly known as “ Kivoka,” where prices were as follows:
Potatoes: between 400 and 550 RWF per kilogram
Peas beans: 2,500 RWF per kilogram
Tomatoes: 800 RWF per kilogram
Carrots: 800 RWF per kilogram
Onions: 1,200 RWF per kilogram
Rice: starting from 1,200 RWF per kilogram
Meat: starting from 7,000 RWF per kilogram
Fish: starting from 700 RWF for one fish suitable for cooking
Conclusion
In general, Muhanga town is lively and clean, and residents told us that they are well prepared and happy to celebrate Christmas (Noel).
