Tragedy: All seven family members lose their lives in road accident
In Uganda,Lwengo District, Saturday, December 27, 2025 .A deep sense of grief has engulfed Lwengo District following a tragic road traffic accident that claimed the lives of seven members of the same family in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The fatal crash occurred at around 4:30 a.m. at Njagalakasayi along the busy Masaka–Mbarara Highway, according to the Traffic Police spokesperson, ACP Michael Kananura.
ACP Kananura said the accident involved a Fuso Fighter truck, registration number UBP 510V, and a Toyota Fielder, registration number UBH 476W.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the Toyota Fielder, which was traveling from the Masaka side, attempted to overtake a line of vehicles before colliding head-on with the oncoming Fuso truck,” Kananura stated.
The impact of the collision was devastating. All seven occupants of the Toyota Fielder died on the spot. The victims were identified as a man, his wife, their four children, and the man’s brother. By press time, police had not yet released the names of the deceased as efforts to notify their relatives were still ongoing.
Traffic Police officers quickly responded to the scene, secured the area, and launched investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, police have renewed their call for motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially when driving at night. ACP Kananura strongly warned against reckless overtaking, emphasizing that poor visibility and driver fatigue are major contributors to fatal crashes on highways.
Motorists were further advised to avoid unnecessary night travel, ensure their vehicles are in good condition, and rest adequately before long journeys, as authorities continue to appeal for responsible road use to prevent similar tragedies.
