GATSIBO: Evariste Uzabakiriho, a man of 45 was found dead under the mango tree with rope around his neck.
A tragic incident has shocked residents of Bishenyi Village, Karambi Cell, Ngarama Sector in Gatsibo District, where a man identified as Evariste Uzabakiriho was found dead, hanging from a mango tree.
According to information from local residents, the deceased was discovered with a rope around his neck. However, the circumstances surrounding his death have raised serious questions, with conflicting views on whether he died by suicide or was killed and later staged to appear as a suicide.
One resident who spoke to the media said there is suspicion that Evariste may have been murdered and that those responsible attempted to mislead investigations by hanging his body to make it look like he took his own life. Residents who arrived at the scene reported that the body was found in an unusual position, saying he appeared to be standing with the rope rather than hanging freely as is typical in cases of suicide.
Residents further claimed that the deceased had long been subjected to domestic abuse, noting that he had been severely beaten in the past and sustained injuries. It is also reported that Evariste had ongoing marital conflicts with his wife, including claims that the couple had failed to maintain intimacy for the past three years, which some believe may have contributed to the tensions in the household.
The Executive Secretary of Ngarama Sector, Felecien Niyonzima, confirmed that local authorities received the information and immediately went to the scene together with security organs operating in the sector. He stated that preliminary information suggests that the deceased may have committed suicide, adding that authorities had previously been involved in mediating family conflicts within the household.
E.S Niyonzima emphasized that unresolved domestic disputes can have serious consequences, including loss of life, and urged residents to avoid family conflicts and seek peaceful solutions when disagreements arise.
The late Evariste is survived by one wife and five children. Investigations into the exact cause and circumstances of his death are ongoing.
