Breaking news, Nyabihu: Mayor and Ibuka president were arrested by this Tuesday, 07 October 2025 for embezzlement of the fund that was to build houses of vulnerable survivers of the Genocide against Tutsi in 1994.
David Mugiraneza , the mayor of Nyabihu district, Samuel Ishimwe ,and other district servants were arrested under the crime of fund embezzlement.
The sources say that as they embezzled the fund (money) that was to build the houses of vulnerable survivers of the Genocide against Tutsi in 1994.
Others arrested include the district staff in charge of logistics, the Director of Social Welfare, the construction officer in the land department, and those responsible for procurement.
They were arrested after an audit revealed irregularities in the awarding of tenders, failure to supply all required materials as stipulated, and acceptance of houses without proper inspection.
It is reported that out of the 17 houses that were supposed to be built, only 15 were completed, and the Ibuka committee was the one supervising their construction.
