Kayonza district: This Friday,03 October 2025 Samuel Habimana of 19 years-old was stoned to death by illegal miners.
The incident took place in Kayonza
district,Rukara sector,in Rukara cell, where the stoned victim, Samuel Habimana was cutting the cow grasses for he was the servant of Bahati Charles who owns the fields there.
The news says that , the illegal miners stoned him for they thought that he will report them to the police forces that they do that illegal crime of mining valuable minerals. Some were caught,and others escaped.
Immaculèe Nyiranizeyimana , the executive secretary of Rukara sector has confirmed the case to have happened,
She said :“We got information that at around half past nine, close to ten o’clock, we were told that he fell into a pond called Cyabatanzi, located between Rukara Cell and Rwimishinya Cell. He drowned there and passed away. When we arrived at the scene as the local authorities, together with security organs and the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), the body had already been retrieved and taken to Gahini Hospital for examination.”
In that area, there are three mines that had been suspended by the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board (RMB), belonging to VUMICO Company, including those located in Kawangire Cell and in another Cell.
