Musanze district: A son and his mother were caught with 2.520 cannabis wraps at their house with the help of citizens.

With the help of local residents and neighbors who leaked the information, the security agencies caught a son and his mother who usually were suspect of cannabis suppliers, they were caught at their home in Muhoza sector, Kigombe cell, in Kiryi village , they were found with 2.520 cannabis wraps, where it is believed that they sell it and supply it across the whole county . It was in normal Police operations against drug trafficking.

One of the neighbors said:’These people, the mother and her son, are always drunk; sometimes the mother gets into fights, and the son is visibly intoxicated too. We had long suspected them, but now they’ve been arrested. We thank the Rwanda National Police for their action.”

Another parent strongly criticized her fellow woman for leading her own child into drug abuse, saying it is a bad habit that destroys their future.

She said:“It’s heartbreaking to see a mother who, instead of teaching her child a productive skill, involves them in drug abuse. These things ruin the youth and the nation as a whole. I urge all parents to instill good values in their children to stay away from drugs, and we too will continue providing information.”

The Spokesperson of the Rwanda National Police in the Northern Province, IP Ignace Ngirabakunzi, thanked the residents who helped in seizing the drugs.

He said:“Citizens are the primary partners in maintaining security by providing information that helps us prevent and combat crimes; that’s how these suspects were apprehended.”

He added that many citizens are now aware of the dangers of drug abuse, which is why they do not hesitate to report such cases on time.

“Drug abuse, in particular, is very dangerous because it leads to other crimes and destroys our citizens, especially the youth. We urge everyone to share any information that can help arrest those involved in transporting, selling, or using drugs.”

He further warned that those who continue to engage in the trade and distribution of drugs should know that all their tricks have been uncovered, and they are advised to stop before they are caught and punished.

Marijuana is classified among the most serious illegal drugs, and anyone convicted by the court can face a sentence of up to life imprisonment.

The suspects are arrested at Muhoza police station as their case waits to be submitted to the prosecution.

END.
