NYAMASHEKE DISTRICT: woman is arrested under abortion and throwing the baby into the toilet.
The news spread last week, in Kabisheshe village,Miko cell, in Karengera sector , that the woman of 32 years-old, and a mother of two has aborted the seven (7) month pregnancy ,and threw the baby into the toilet.
The residents say that they started to listen to these speculation saying that there might be someone who did abortion, however the Primary Health advisors (Abajyanama b’Ubuzima) thought that it could be someone who aborted an early pregnancy, but after they came to know that it was a mother of two (2) who aborted the seven (7) month pregnancy.
On the morning of October 7, 2025, security organs and the administration of Karengera Sector, together with local residents, demolished the latrine where the woman had dumped the baby, and they found that the body had already decomposed.
Alfred Uzayisenga said, “After they decided to remove the baby, they completely demolished the latrine, took the body out, and placed it above ground. The grandmother was the one who washed it, but since it had been there for several days, it had already started decomposing — when they touched the hair or the body, it would come off.”
The acting executive secretary of Karengera Sector, Jean Damascene Mbanenande , criticized residents of this village for failing to report the incident on time, saying the baby might have been saved if they had done so earlier.
He said that the woman confessed to the authorities that she decided to abort because the man who impregnated her denied responsibility.
He explained: “You see, some residents already knew she was pregnant. When they later saw her without the pregnancy, they started wondering what had happened, which led to the discovery. She was arrested and told us what had happened, saying she did it because the man responsible refused to acknowledge the pregnancy, telling her that he couldn’t be the father.”
The official went on to advise young people in general to avoid engaging in unplanned sexual intercourse, saying that it is often the main cause of such problems. He reminded them that even when it happens, killing the baby is not a solution, as the child is innocent and bears no responsibility for the situation.
He said:“It’s about avoiding the habit of fornication because what happened is a result of immoral behavior. Even if it happens and you become pregnant, protect that child—don’t abort—because you never know what that child might become in the future. He could be someone who brings great value to the country, or even to you personally.”
The woman who had the abortion already had two daughters she had given birth to at her parents’ home. The aborted pregnancy was that of a baby boy, who, according to residents, was about seven months along.
The baby’s body was immediately taken to Bushenge Hospital for examination, while the woman had spent the night in custody under the investigation bureau.
