Rwanda Catholic Church distances itself from claims of Marian apparitions in Musanze

The Catholic Church has distanced itself from reports claiming that the Virgin Mary appeared in the Musanze area, describing the information as false and based only on rumors.
According to Church sources, the story began when children started saying that a certain color formation they saw looked like the image of the Virgin Mary. The information was quickly spread and reached parents and other members of the community, even though there was no clear or visible image to support the claim. As a result, many residents gathered at the site, believing that something extraordinary had occurred.
However, authorities emphasized that there was nothing at all that could be identified as an apparition. “There is no sign of any image, and people only came together because of rumors. In short, this story is not true,” one Church representative said.
Despite this clarification, some residents continued to insist that an apparition had taken place and that what they witnessed were miracles.
The Church reminded the public that, so far, the only Marian apparitions officially recognized in Rwanda are those of Kibeho, which occurred in the 1980s and were reported by three schoolgirls studying in the area at that time.
The faithful have been urged to remain calm and to avoid spreading unverified information, instead relying on official statements from the Church.
In the letter of Busogo parish ,which we have a copy , the leading Father of Busogo parish has asked Christians to not be hurrilly to believe in everything without any clear evidence of their existence. He said that the apparitions that are being said to have taken place in Musanze are all rumours , and that they are investigating it.
