Kamonyi: Three men and a young child die after consuming suspected contaminated alcohol
Police in Rwanda’s Southern Province have arrested two suspects, a man and a woman, in connection with the sale of illegal alcoholic beverages believed to have caused the death of four people in Kamonyi District.
According to the Southern Province Police spokesperson, CIP Hassan, the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) has launched an investigation to determine the suspects’ role in the distribution of the illegal alcohol.
The two suspects are currently being held at Rukoma Police Station, while investigations continue.
Police also confirmed that two other individuals who consumed the same alcohol are receiving treatment in hospital.
Authorities have warned the public against consuming or trading in unlicensed and unregulated alcoholic drinks, noting that such products pose a serious risk to public health and safety.
Investigations into the case are ongoing.
